RECITALS II: Alexandre Tharaud, piano
An artist of unique vision and originality, French pianist Alexandre Tharaud is heralded for his brilliantly-conceived programs and best-selling recordings that range from Bach, Chopin, Rameau and Ravel to music inspired by Paris cabaret of the 1920s. Last season he returned to Carnegie Hall after a successful debut in the 2012–13 season where he played Scarlatti and Liszt, the night after a mixed program of jazz and classical at New York’s famous nightclub, Le Poisson Rouge. This season, Tharaud will release a disc of Bach's Goldberg Variations, considered by many the work demanding the most requirements of virtuoso techniques from a performer, as well as the piece that sums up the entire history of Baroque variation. Tharaud will perform the Goldberg Variations in his Savannah debut, and he will also play in a chamber concert with Daniel Hope & Friends. His playing has been praised in The New York Times as “exquisite, crisp and beautifully textured” and noted for its combination of “refinement and daring.”
