Margaret Glaspy /Jenny Scheinman's Mischief & Mayhem feat. Nels Cline, Todd Sickafoose and Jim Black
Songwriter and guitarist Margaret Glaspy has “a knack for sending shivers down any spine” (WNYC). In her SMF debut, Glaspy performs her fiercely raw guitar-driven pop songs with guitarist Julian Lage. Throughout her relatively young career, the 27-year-old California native has been based in New York City, having performed with artists ranging from Rachel Yamagata to Del McCoury and Wilco. Margaret Glaspy constantly expands on her diverse influences, saying that “Joni Mitchell’s Blue set the bar in my mind that I’m always striving for.”

Violinist Jenny Scheinman and her quartet deliver an incendiary chemistry that NPR describes as “hazy, dreamy grooves from the Heartland (with) the experimental jazz quirks of Brooklyn.” Having performed and recorded with such artists as Bill Frisell, Lucinda Williams, Marc Ribot, Lou Reed and Norah Jones, Jenny Scheinman is one of modern American music's most notorious chameleons. Mischief & Mayhem features guitarist Nels Cline, who after several decades as a cult hero in the world of experimental music has garnered mainstream fame through his work with the rock band Wilco; the powerful bass player and producer Todd Sickafoose; and Jim Black, one of New York City's most distinctive drummers. Together this all-star band guides Scheinman’s trademark melodies through the psychedelic territory of guitar loops, steady grooves and frequent ambush.
