Lurrie Bell first performed at SMF in 2005 with his father, famed harmonica player Carey Bell. He grew up steeped in the Chicago blues, around musicians including Muddy Waters, Eddie Taylor, Jimmy Dawkins, Eddie Clearwater and Sunnyland Slim. Lurrie Bell’s intense guitar playing and passionate vocals have since made him a favorite at clubs and festivals around the world, earning him a reputation as one of the leading lights in the future of the blues. This special performance previews Bell’s 2017 festival appearance in “Chicago Blues Meets Gulf Coast Boogie” (April 1 at Ships of the Sea), where he shares a bill with Marcia Ball and James Cotton.
