Sahkanaga (pronounced "sock-uh-nogga" and Cherokee for "Great Blue Hills of God") is a fictional exploration of a scandal that rocked a tight-knit community in the Appalachian foothills of northwest Georgia. Shot in Walker County, GA, and cast entirely with local actors, many of whom had a direct connection to the real-life story, the film presents an unknowable tragedy from the perspective of one teenager who must grapple with the consequences of secrets and the difficulties of forgiveness. True to the roots of Southern Gothic, it is full of dark humor.
