Fatoumata Diawara/Bombino

Fatoumata Diawara/Bombino
This unique double bill offers a rare opportunity to see two of the hottest emerging artists in the world music scene today. Malian singer and guitarist Fatoumata Diawara spins elements of jazz and funk into an exquisitely spare, yet sensual folk-rock, inflecting it with the rhythms and melodies of Wassoulou, her ancestral song form. Likened to her mentor, Oumou Sangaré, Diawara has been hailed as the next female African songwriter of significance, one who “combines social conscience with effortless melodic charm” (Financial Times). Omara “Bombino” Moctar is a Tuareg guitarist/singer whose recent Nonesuch release was produced by Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys. His raw, dialed-up jams are rooted in the electric blues tradition of his nomadic people. Hailing from Niger, Bombino has an infectious and wholly original sound, with a sense of wisdom and ability to connect with those around him.
