Noam Pikelny Band/Becca Stevens Band

Noam Pikelny Band/Becca Stevens Band
Another only-in-Savannah double bill showcases banjoist/composer Noam Pikelny (Punch Brothers, Leftover Salmon) and his outstanding band including guitarist Bryan Sutton, Luke Bulla on fiddle, Jesse Cobb on mandolin and bassist Barry Bales. Pikelny’s music propels bluegrass music forward with a grounded yet innovative approach that has earned him a GRAMMY nomination and the first Steve Martin Award for Excellence in Bluegrass Banjo. The New Yorker describes Noam Pikelny as “wide-ranging and restlessly imaginative.” The other half of this program features the Becca Stevens Band. The daughter of musicians, North Carolina bred, NYC-based singer/ guitarist Becca Stevens has already received copious praise from the likes of The New York Times, who described her as “a best-kept secret” and “impressively absorbing.” Since receiving a BFA with high honors in vocal jazz and composition from The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in New York, Stevens has created music offering a beguiling blend of head and heart that resists easy categorization, drawing upon elements of pop, jazz or folk without limiting itself to the rules of any particular genre. Her closely-knit band includes Liam Robinson (accordion and keyboards), Chris Tordini (bass) and Jordan Perlson (drums), who complement Stevens’ expressive work on guitar, ukulele and charango.
