From Script to Screen

How does your script become a film? Follow the process from the sale of your script to the marketing of your film with this panel. Hear from a Literary Manager on what to expect when taking your script out and a Development Executive on the development process. Then follow what happens next when the project gets financing and goes into production from a boots-on-the-ground Producer. And once the film is ready, hear from a Sales Agent on what to expect when taking your film to the market.

Panelists:
KAILA YORK – Literary Manager/Producer, Headlong Entertainment Kaila York started her career in the agency world. After four combined years at both Paradigm Talent Agency and Genesis Literary Agency, Kaila joined Martin Chase Productions, which had a first look deal at Disney. In 2008, Kaila launched Headlong Entertainment. Kaila’s projects run the gammit from film to television. In 2011, she produced the feature film, Greystone Park. She’s produced The Evil Gene, starring Richard Speight Jr. which is currently in post-production. Kaila just recently set up her next feature film Highly Functional, which will shoot in November, with Matador Pictures. In television, she recently developed a one-hour drama series with Silver Pictures (The Matrix, Veronica Mars) and is currently working on several new projects. Kaila recently branched out into reality television as well with producing partner Bonnie Forbes, and is developing two reality series.

Susan CartsonisProducer
The Hollywood Reporter named Susan Cartsonis one of the top five grossing producers of the year for her box office record-breaking film, WHAT WOMEN WANT (the second highest grossing romantic comedy of all time to this day) and WHERE THE HEART IS starring Natalie Portman. As an executive at 20th Century Fox for nearly ten years and through the two successful independent film companies she's built, Cartsonis has grossed over 1B in box office by creating movies that "women want to see, and men like too." She has worked with many female directors including Nancy Meyers, Elizabeth Allen (on Aquamarine), Fran Kuzui (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Gurinder Chadha, Rachel Talalay, and Randa Haines. Cartsonis is a member of the Academy, The Producer’s Guild, is Chair of Women in Film’s Foundation Board, and is on the Women’s Board of Digital Hollywood.

Robin PalmerNovelist/Screenwriter/Producer
Robin Palmer started as an assistant in the television literary department of the William Morris Agency and she quickly moved up the ranks and spent the next decade as a literary agent, producer, and television network executive at Lifetime Television, where she developed more than one hundred scripts and oversaw the production of over thirty of the cable network’s original movies. In 2001, she walked away from the executive world, started selling her Manolo Blahniks on eBay to pay the rent, and began writing. While writing 10 Young Adult and Middle Grade novels for Penguin Publishers , she moved to New York and began consulting for MTV where she developed and produced the channel’s original cable movies before moving back into screenwriting. Since then, she has written numerous screenplays and TV pilots.

CHARLSEY ADKINSVP Development & Production, Harbinger Pictures
Charlsey Adkins is Vice President of development and production at the feature film production company, Harbinger Pictures, the company behind the acclaimed motion picture, THE HELP. Charlsey is responsible for overseeing the company's development slate as well as producing films with Harbinger’s principle Brunson Green. Before joining Harbinger, Charlsey gained production experience working on Studio feature films that include WE ARE MARSHALL, ROLE MODELS, FAST AND FURIOUS 4, THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL and INCEPTION. Charlsey has a bachelor degree in film with a minor in economics. She constantly looks for innovation in content and believes it is the only way to adapt as a filmmaker in this ever-changing market. www.HarbingerPictures

GIULIA PRENNA – Producer/Sales Agent
Since 2002, Giulia Prenna has worked under such mentors as Oscar winners Akiva Goldsman/Weed Road Pictures, George Clooney/Section Eight, Rosalie Swedlin/Industry Entertainment, Gail Mutrux at Pretty Pictures, and Gianni Nunnari/Hollywood Gang Productions as VP Creative Affairs, introducing projects such as THE IMMORTALS for Relativity, and developing the sequel to 300 (XERXES) with Frank Miller. In 2008 she formed Mind the GAP Productions to develop and produce commercial feature films and television series. Giulia produced GREYSTONE PARK, written and directed by Sean Stone, featuring Oliver Stone, and THE EVIL GENE, starring Richard Speight Jr. and Cameron Richardson. She is also producing HOW TO SURVIVE AN OFFICE UPRISING, written by Ian Shorr and Peter Gamble Robinson, to be directed by Brad Peyton. Most recently Giulia has been working in International Sales for Bleiberg Entertainment, Epic Pictures Group, and is now Director of Sales at Double Dutch International where she looks for films to acquire for international sale and distribution, as well as financing and producing features.
