Southern Troubadours

Southern Troubadours

Three distinctly different artists share the stage for an evening of song swapping. Joe Ely, a founding member of The Flatlanders (who played at the Lucas Theatre during SMF 2011) is an American singer, songwriter and guitarist whose music touches on honky-tonk, Texas country, Tex-Mex and rock and roll. Those who have followed Ruthie Foster know that she can burn down any stage with her combustible blend of soul, blues, rock, folk and gospel. Ruthie’s astonishing voice has taken her on an amazing ride, one that has included two SMF performances and house concerts over the past five years. Paul Thorn has been pleasing crowds for years with his muscular brand of roots music—bluesy, rocking and thoroughly Southern.

“… sounds long-suffering, forthright, resilient and thoroughly at home.” —The New York Times
