Distribution Revolution

From traditional theatrical and international distribution models to the new wave of social media and digital distribution, the idea of "distribution" is an ever-evolving field and has changed significantly over the past few years. Getting your film finished is one thing; getting it into the marketplace and in front of audiences presents a whole new set of challenges.

Panelists:

Derek Carter – General Manager, Angelika Film Center NY
Carter, a graduate of SCAD (Film/TV, ’09), relocated to New York City to work in international film distribution at Focus Features, then in film exhibition managing Chelsea Cinemas. Currently, he is the General Manager of one of the nation’s most prominent art-house movie theaters: the Angelika Film Center, specializing in independent and foreign cinema.

Ted Hope - CEO, Fandor
As the CEO of Fandor, Ted Hope connects film lovers and makers by meaningful and entertaining cinematic experiences. As a producer, he holds a record at Sundance: three of his films (American Splendor, The Brothers McMullen, What Happened Was…) won the Grand Jury Prize. His films have also won/been nominated for Oscars, BAFTAs and the Critics Prize at Cannes. Hope posts regularly on his HopeForFilm blog, and his first book, Hope for Film, came out in August.

Laura Kim – SVP Film Marketing , Participant Media
Laura Kim oversees marketing strategy, partnerships, and campaign development for Participant Media’s films, liaising with all distributors and studios, promotional partners, filmmakers and talent. Among Participant’s upcoming films are Margaret Brown’s THE GREAT INVISIBLE, Robert Kenner’s MERCHANTS OF DOUBT and J.C. Chandor’s A MOST VIOLENT YEAR. Among its recent releases are Andrew Rossi’s IVORY TOWER (Samuel Goldwyn Films), Brian Knappenberger’s THE INTERNET’S OWN BOY with FilmBuff, and Lasse Hallström’s THE HUNDRED-FOOT JOURNEY with Dreamworks.

Ted Mundoff - President of Landmark Theaters
Ted Mundorff is President and Chief Executive Officer for Landmark Theatres and one of the most experienced voices in independent film today. His responsibilities include oversight for all film bookings, theatre operations, real estate, sales, marketing, sponsorships, advertising and training. He also oversees Truly Indie which provides a unique distribution and publicity strategy for independent filmmakers launching their films.
