Cinema Circle: Do the Right Thing
Ranking at No. 24 on Sight and Sound's 2022 list of the 100 Greatest Films of All Time, Spike Lee's landmark Do the Right Thing reflects the record number of African American filmmakers on the updated poll's list. Included in the Sight and Sound poll's top 100 for the first time, the 1989 film is a work of Lee's peerless vision that is as entertaining as it is devastating. Starring Lee and the late actors Ruby Dee, Danny Aiello, and Bill Nunn, Do the Right Thing chronicles the comings, goings, and simmering tensions at Sal’s Famous Pizzeria on the hottest day of the summer in Brooklyn's Bedford-Stuyvesant section.

Sight and Sound Shakeups: Shifting the Canon
Since 1952, the British Film Institute's decennial tradition of asking influential international critics and scholars to name the greatest films of all time has become a defining bellwether of critical opinion on cinema. This year's once-in-a-decade poll had a record number of participating respondents, and the resulting list featured some of the biggest breakthroughs and changes in its history, several of which are highlighted in this winter's SCAD Cinema Circle series, Sight and Sound Shakeups: Shifting the Canon.
